a global nervous system

Stepping back in time and dissecting this world’s means of communication really puts into perspective how far the advancement of technology has come using the foundations it was built on (and how useless this degree would be without it).

I truthfully thought Morse Code had no important place in history and was just a movie with that actor (I really meant the Da Vinci Code); which was an extremely naive and uneducated view.

Very poor diagram

The telegraph and its means of transportation for this code very loosely resembles texting today, however, now we have no main man. The progression past people tapping machines for us in the 1840s (centralised networks) has allowed for us to start tapping machines for ourselves (distributed networks).

While our messages can now be sent instantly across the globe compared to old Barry on his horse – should we really that privilege based on the garbage fire the internet is today?

  1. omg,,,, that gif is me and i don’t like being called out like this.

great piece! it’s really interesting that once we take a step back and analyse how technology got to this point we really marvel at how so many things we didn’t even stop to consider helped play a part towards the advancement of technology.

  2. What a great read this was ! Definitely on the same boat about the underestimating the impact of morse code. You described the centralised and decentralised networks differently to me but in rather more collective terms and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Crazy how the worlds changed, and the advancement of technology is now like the communications nervous system of life.

  3. such a great post, I find it really easy to read what you write! also, your blog is vibes, I love it. In my blog, I talk about how strange it is that not too long ago communication across long distances was compared to today, it’s super fascinating to stop and think about.

  4. I absolutely LOVE the aesthetics of your blog! This was such a great and engaging post, the vibrancy of your blog and visuals add to the reading experience, it is nice to see such an attention to detail! In my blog post for week two, I discussed the evolution of the internet and the global nervous system over the decades, and my. remediation depicted the evolution of animal to man to robot. Great read!
