In all honesty this topic flew over my head and I struggled trying to make a remediation for concepts I don’t really understand, hence the Imgur cop out.
There are 4 stages of a sign 1. reflection, 2. mask, 3. illusion, 4. simulacrum
I think something that helped my understanding of simulacrum in particular was the example in the lecture, which again, is kind of a cop out. The video shows completely generated people, not based on anything or anyone in particular, just completely, nothing.
I then did a little bit of googling about fake people, because it’s all that would stick in my brain. There are hyper realistic human sculptures, that are terrifying and kind of weird, but they explore what and how we recognise something as human. Even though these sculptures look awfully realistic, and share human features, THEY AREN’T REAL.
